Tourism Ireland Wins Big at French Travel Awards
Tourism Ireland has been voted number one tourist board for best use of social media in France.
Organised by We Like Travel, an agency specialising in social media and travel, the awards ceremony took place at IFTM (International French Travel Market) Top Résa in Paris. The event is the largest travel trade exhibition in France and is taking place this week.
Tourism Ireland came in first place in the “best overseas destination on social media” category. This was ahead of 100 other destinations, including Mauritius at number two and VisitBritain at number three. The criteria by which the tourist boards were evaluated included social media strategy, presence and performance on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
As part of its overall marketing strategy, Tourism Ireland is using social media in a host of creative ways to inspire potential holidaymakers to visit Ireland. The organisation has more than 215,000 fans on Facebook in France (4.3 million worldwide), 35,500 followers on Twitter and 25,600 followers on Instagram.
Monica MacLaverty (pictured on the right), Tourism Ireland’s Manager Southern Europe, said in a statement: “Social media is now an integral element of Tourism Ireland’s overall promotional programme. So, we’re delighted to receive this award.”
“We are constantly looking at new and creative ways of highlighting Ireland here in France – using great photos, videos and a range of engaging content to spread positive word-of-mouth about the holiday experience in the island with our fans and followers.”
In 2018, Ireland welcomed 546,700 French visitors to the Emerald Isle.
MacLaverty continued: “France is one of the top four markets for tourism to the island. Tourism Ireland is rolling out a busy programme of promotions in France this autumn aimed at boosting late season travel to Ireland and at positioning us well for 2020.”
