Ireland is ‘Write On’ at Tourism Ireland’s Press Awards in Amsterdam

Top travel and lifestyle journalists in the Netherlands attended this year’s ‘Ierland Press Awards’ – organised by Tourism Ireland in Amsterdam.

This was the 12th year of the awards, which recognise and commend the Dutch journalists, photographers and bloggers who have written the most inspiring articles about holidaying in Ireland over the past year. The event was an opportunity for Tourism Ireland to thank the Dutch for their efforts throughout the year in helping to highlight the Emerald Isle as a fantastic destination for holidaymakers.

The theme of this year’s event was culinary experience – with artisan producers from West Cork on hand to present produce, including West Cork Distillers and Skeaghanore Duck & Fields of Skibbereen. Also in attendance were representatives of A Taste of West Cork festival – highlighting all that the county has to offer to the influential Dutch journalists.

“Tourism Ireland was delighted to recognise these journalists for their excellent work during 2018, helping us in our efforts to raise awareness of the island of Ireland among Dutch travellers,” said Karen van der Horst, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for the Netherlands in a statement. “A key element of our annual promotional programme involves working with travel and lifestyle media and bloggers, to ensure they write or broadcast extensively about the island of Ireland as a holiday destination.

“Our awards event was also a really good opportunity to spread the word about our superb culinary offering and what makes a holiday in Ireland unique and truly memorable. Our message here in the Netherlands is that the island of Ireland is a superb choice for ‘foodies’ for a holiday.”

A special guest at the event was Yvette van Boven – a critically-acclaimed cookbook author, columnist and presenter of a popular Dutch cooking show called Koken Met van Boven. Yvette was born in Dún Laoghaire and her cookbook Home Sweet Home is all about traditional and contemporary cooking culture of Ireland. With her knowledge of Ireland and her special affection for Irish cuisine, Yvette reminded the Dutch journalists about Ireland’s food offerings.
