A Titanic Welcome For A Bollywood Star

One of Bollywood’s biggest stars, Aamir Khan, was in Northern Ireland this week, to speak at the Belfast Film Festival.

His visit was supported by Tourism Ireland and the British Council. As well as taking part in a special “In Conversation” session at the Waterfront Hall, Khan also enjoyed a tour of Belfast.

His travels included a stop at Titanic Belfast. Tourism Ireland’s Indian branch will be sharing a photo of Khan at the landmark with influential Indian travel journalists, as well as with his fans and followers on social media.

“We were delighted to welcome Aamir Khan to Belfast,” said Aubrey Irwin, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Emerging Markets in a statement. “He is a huge star in India. So his visit is a wonderful opportunity for us to raise awareness of Belfast and Ireland among Indian travellers – encouraging them to follow in his footsteps and put the island on their holiday ‘wish list’ for 2019”.

Khan’s greatest global successes came with thriller Ghajini (2008), comedy-drama 3 Idiots (2009), action film Dhoom 3 (2013), satire PK (2014), and sports biopic Dangal (2016). Each held the record for being the highest-grossing Indian film.

In 2018, Ireland welcomed around 45,000 visitors from India, according to Tourism Ireland.
