Billy Roche’s The Diary of Maynard Perdu Comes to dlr Mill Theatre
dlr Mill Theatre in Dundrum is set to host another Billy Roche (The Wexford Trilogy) tour de force for two nights this September 6 – 7 with The Diary of Maynard Perdu.
The play is set in the fantastic, mirrored, burlesque world of the Spiegeltent where fantasy and delusion reign supreme. Based on a novella by Roche, the one man show takes viewers on a romantic journey of adventure and intrigue all of which serves to mask the pain and loss that are buried deep within.
Described as The Elephant Man meets The Catcher In The Rye, Roche will also direct this staging of the play. It will star the acclaimed actor/musician Peter McCamley.
The show has received rave reviews. Artemis Fowl writer Eoin Colfer has called it ‘a richly layered, dark tale that enthralls from the first beautiful sentence to the final poignant paragraph’, as well as ‘a moody, spellbinding triumph.’
Meanwhile, The Weir scribe Conor McPherson said: “The Diary of Maynard Perdu has all the mythic qualities that make it truly Rochean – the gothic carnival, the energy of illusion/delusion and at its heart the profound compassion and sense of loss.”
Tickets cost from €18. For more information about the play, see here.
