Rodrigo y Gabriela have announced an Autumn UK and Ireland tour, which includes a stop-off at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin on September 19.
This comes off the back of a recent Olympia Theatre sold–out show for the Mexican classical guitar group, as well as their new album Mettavolution. The record released this week to much critical acclaim, with Billboard calling it: “virtuoso rock’n’roll.”
Three years in the making, Mettavolution brings together the acoustic act’s passionate interest in Buddhism, the history of human evolution and the liberation of the potential we have as a species; all expressed through the medium of two guitars. Conceived and composed in their studio in Ixtapa on the Mexican Pacific Coast, then road-tested in South America, the US and Australia, it has been distilled down to six new compositions and one audacious, jaw-dropping cover version.
Beginning their career in Galway, Ireland, deep-rooted fans who discovered Rodrigo y Gabriela through their 2006 self-titled breakout album have long recognized the Mexicans’ mastery of their instruments.
