Frank McGuinness’ powerful play Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme makes its return to the Abbey Theatre to mark 100 years since the Battle of the Somme.
Observe the Sons of Ulster tells the story of eight unionist Ulstermen who volunteer to serve in the Lewis (Ulster) Division during the First World War and go on to fight in the Battle of the Somme – one of the bloodiest battles in human history. With an incredible cast, this is sure to be a fantastic production and will serve as a poignant reminder of the horrors of war as we reflect on and remember all of those who gave their lives during the Battle of the Somme.
