The Novaya Opera of Moscow, accompanied by the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, will present Verdi’s great masterpiece La Traviata at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in November 2020.
La Traviata (‘The Fallen Woman’) takes place in Paris around 1850 and is the tragic story of well-known beauty and courtesan Violetta. After a full life of parties and many lovers, she eventually finds true love. Unfortunately by this time she has contracted consumption and is slowly becoming weaker and more ill.
This production, with spectacular settings by renowned Italian designer Guiliano Spinelli, was the star of the recent Festival Pucciniano in Torre del Largo, Italy. The event was founded in 1930 and over the years has become an increasingly prestigious event which attracts tens of thousands of people from all over the world.
Joining the famous soloists and chorus of The Novaya Opera of Moscow is Irish favourite Claudia Boyle. She will perform the starring role of Violetta on Wednesday 25, Friday 27 and Sunday 29 during November. The character is one she previously played in London with the English National Opera.
