Ireland Wins Business Tourism Destination Award in China
Ireland has been named one of the top international business travel destinations, at an awards ceremony in China.
The 2018 Goldfinger Awards – for the events and business tourism sector in China – took place recently in Shanghai. Established ten years ago, the annual awards recognise the best tourism spots, hotels and PCOs (professional conference organisers).
At the ceremony, Ireland was named one of the most influential international MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) destinations. Hosted jointly by Events Fortune magazine and China Festival magazine, the awards were attended by around 800 people from 150 different cities around China.
James Kenny, Tourism Ireland’s China Manager, said in a statement: “We are delighted that Ireland has been recognised as one of the most influential destinations for international business travel here in China. Tourism Ireland has been working hard to build awareness of our country in China – including our ability to deliver world-class business events. This accolade will help raise the profile of Ireland and convince more influential MICE buyers and decision-makers to visit.”
Tourism Ireland has offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu. The target geographies for Tourism Ireland in China are Shanghai in East China; Beijing and Tianjin in North China; Guangzhou in South China; and Chengdu in West China. The organisation is also now focusing on Hong Kong, since the launch of the new Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to Dublin, which commenced in June.
