The First Ever Festival of Prosecco Kicks Off This Month

Bubbles will be flying across Cork this month, as corks start popping for the first ever Festival of Prosecco.

The highly anticipated event, which is being run in association with Tindal Wine Merchants and the Perlage Winery in Italy, will kick off this week. The festival will be hosted across The Metropole Hotel, Cork International Hotel and The Blue Haven Kinsale throughout the month of May. Many events are already sold-out, with a limited number of tickets available for some over the month.

Events will include masterclasses on how prosecco is made and where it comes from, a prosecco cocktail making class, a prosecco Supper Club and a tasting event. Organiser of the Festival of Prosecco, Sandra Murphy of Trigon Hotels said in a statement: “We have had a fantastic reaction to the festival. The events will bring a boost for tourism in the city. We are seeing significant interest from people from all around Ireland who wish to attend.”

“In addition to tasting some wonderful prosecco over the month, there will also be so much to learn at the masterclasses such as how prosecco is made and where it comes from.”

As part of the festival there will be a number of events and masterclasses over the month, such as ‘The History of Prosecco’ on Friday, May 10 which will take place at The Metropole Hotel. This event, held in association with Tindal Wine Merchants, will look at where prosecco comes from and how it is made.

Guests will be welcomed with a prosecco cocktail. Then they will taste their way through four different types of the white wine from the Perlage winery located in the Veneto region of Italy. Perlage is Italy’s first organic vineyard.

On Friday, May 17, The Metropole Hotel will host a fun and interactive masterclass by two of their in-house mixologists. Cocktails will include the Bakewell Fizz and the MacCurtain Sweet.

The Cork International Hotel will have a prosecco station for the full month of May at their Sunday buffet. They will also have a special prosecco cocktail menu on offer for the month.

To conclude the festival, The Metropole Hotel will host the Prosecco Supper Club on Friday May 24. This will include a bespoke four course meal with carefully prepared glasses of the finest prosecco. These will be introduced by Elena Brugnera, a winemaker from the prestigious Perlage vineyard, Italy’s first organic sparkling winery.
