Druid Theatre Company have announced a new production for 2018 as they continue their exploration of Shakespeare’s kings with DruidShakespeare: Richard III. The production opens at Town Hall Theatre, Galway in September and runs at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin in October as part of Dublin Theatre Festival 2018.
When peace descends, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, is not a happy man. Crippled from birth and intensely ambitious, he sets about bending the world to his own desires. No bond is too sacred, no blood too thick – nothing will stand between Richard and the crown.
Shakespeare gives us one of the great villains in Richard III, in a chilling and darkly comic story of power and ambition. Druid’s production features the acclaimed creative team and Druid Ensemble behind DruidShakespeare and sees Aaron Monaghan take on the role of Richard III.
