WATCH | Discover Northern Ireland Premiere New Video Starring Neil Delamere
57 per cent of the Republic of Ireland have never crossed the border to Northern Ireland say Discover Northern Ireland, quoting an independent survey conducted around two years ago.
This startling fact has led the tourism body to create a video titled ‘What’s Keeping You’, starring Irish comedian Neil Delamere. Premiering yesterday (March 20) at a press event in Dublin’s Fade Street Social Restaurant, it is nine minutes long and follows the former Republic of Telly host as he visits many of Belfast, Derry and the Causeway Coast’s key tourist spots.
Locations featured in the film include the Glens of Antrim, Murlough Bay, Ballintoy Harbour, the old Bushmills Distillery, Dunluce Castle and of course the new Derry Girls mural. Commenting on the statistic that launched the video, Delamere states: “It’s bizarre. Northern Ireland is closer to Dublin than Cork, Limerick and Galway … It’s hardly the Berlin Wall lads.”
At Discover Northern Ireland’s event in Fade Street, Director of Marketing for the tourism body, Naomi Waite, said the film was made ‘to demonstrate just how easy Northern Ireland is to get to and around.’ She also discussed the region’s upcoming tourism developments such as the Game of Thrones: Touring Exhibition opening in Belfast on April 11, the reopening of the restored Hillsborough Castle for the general public on April 18 and The 148th Open taking place at Royal Portrush Golf Club this summer.
“We are continuing to punch above our weight. Now is the time to experience all that Northern Ireland has to offer, ” said Waite. “It’s a destination which in our view is perfect for a short break or indeed a 48-hour-road trip as its just two hours up the road. We really want to ask that 57 per cent, what’s keeping you?”
