Special Guest at Dingle Film Festival Writer-Director of Waking Ned Devine
The Dingle Film Festival will take place March 21 – 24, with the prestigious movie event now revealing one of their special guests set to attend.
The festival will welcome writer-director Kirk Jones to present a special screening of the hugely successful Waking Ned Devine. This was Jones’s first feature film for which he was nominated for a BAFTA. Proportionate to budget, the comedy was one of the highest grossing films in the world in 1999 and won awards throughout the US and Europe.
Set in a tiny Irish village, the film starred Ian Bannen, David Kelly, Fionnula Flanagan, Susan Lynch and James Nesbitt. When an elderly local lottery winner dies of shock, his fellow townsfolk attempt to claim the money.
Jones later went on to direct Nanny McPhee, the Robert DeNiro starring Everybody’s Fine and Hollywood ensemble comedy What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Jones’ next project will see a second collaboration with De Niro; an original idea and screenplay, which he will direct in the summer of 2019.
The writer-director will be on hand to answer questions at the festival March 24. Tickets are available here. Meanwhile, follow this link to see Travel Ireland Magazine’s full report on the Dingle event.
