Corcach: A Journey

Cork is set once again to host the Cork Folk Festival. The packed international line up features musicians from all over Europe and Ireland. Headlining this year’s festival will be the wonderful singer from Yorkshire, Kate Rusby. The five day festival now in its 39th year will also include a performance by Dave Flynn’s Irish Memory Orchestra with special guest accordion maestro player Máirtín O’Connor.  Also featured at this year’s 5 day festival will be KGB, featuring three of Ireland’s most famous musicians, Paddy Keenan, Frankie Gavin and Dermot Byrne also with fiddler Kevin Burke. This year the festival has commissioned new music to commemorate the founding of the folk festival in 1979. “Corcach: A Journey” will be premiered in St Finn Barre’s Cathedral at the Cork Folk Festival. The line up for this concert will feature the Casey Sisters, Johnny McCarthy, Eoin O Riabhaigh, & String Quartet with Eithne Willis and Joan Scannell.  For the first during the folk festival we will feature Fada music from Portugal, travelling from Lisbon to sing in Cork will be Claudia Aurora and her band along with Máire Ní Chéileachair & Nell Ní Chróinín.

The festival line up is huge this year and it include Cork’s own John Spillane with Hanora George+ Ger Wolfe, Jimmy Crowley, Seamus Begley & Jim Murray, John Blek, Ye Vagabonds, Pete Coe (UK), Desi Wilkinson & Patrick Moulard from Brittany, Two Time Polka, Striolán Céilí Band, Blind Poets, Rowan Piggott,  Cork Singers Club and Cork Pipers Club. There will also lively be dancing and music on the street of Cork featuring the Abegondo Pipe and Dance Band from Galicia in Spain.
