Cork Film Festival Sets 2019 Dates, Submissions Now Open
Cork Film Festival 2019 will take place November 7 – 17 in venues across the county.
The festival made the announcement today as it invited filmmakers from Ireland and across the globe to submit their features and shorts in consideration for the upcoming event. Organisers say they welcome all forms of film production, including fiction, documentary, animation and experimental and that they actively seek out new voices which push boundaries and take risks.
Each year, the festival offers the awards for Grand Prix Irish Short and Grand Prix International Short. Each is Academy Award qualifying, ensuring that the winners in Cork automatically join the Oscars long list. Find out more about submitting a film here.
Meanwhile to coincide with the First Fortnight European Mental Health Arts & Culture Festival, the festival will present a special screening of award-winning documentary Crazywise on January 17 at 7.30pm in Triskel Christchurch, followed by a post-film discussion. The movie explores what can be learned from people around the world who have turned their psychological crisis into a positive transformative experience.
Last year’s Cork Film Festival featured over 250 features and shorts including recent Golden Globe winner The Favourite. Cinefiles who missed the Irish premieres of Monsters and Men, Colette, Bergman – A Year in a Life and On Her Shoulders will have a chance to see them again as they go on general release this month. The former two are out January 11, while the latter are in cinemas January 25.
